As we were living it up in Vegas, I tried to keep mental notes of all the hobo lifestyle tricks that we pulled during our stay. Below is a short list of things you can do to stretch your dollar.
-We paid for a regular room at Excalibur, and then upgraded to a widescreen room. Matt found this trick online, and Reggie confirmed it as he did this when he was in Sin City. What’s the trick?
The trick is to slip a $20 bill in between your driver’s license and credit card, while handing it over the front desk person. Say something along the lines of, “I have a room under Billy Bob, do you have any complimentary room upgrades available?”

When we went to go register, the hotel manager was watching us, so I couldn’t slip in the $20. However, as soon as he left, we asked the lady for the upgrade and she said she already upgraded us! Free suc doo.
-Hotels are always giving away free swag out in the streets or in the lobbies. We scored free buffett tickets by spinning a wheel of fortune giveaway.
-You can drink on the strip in Las Vegas, so remember to drink while walking to the club/bars. You can save money on hailing a cab, and get suc while walking.
-Drinks in the casinos are free too, just make sure you tip your waiter/waitress.
-Know people who know people. There are plenty of people in Vegas who have hookups to all sorts of things, so just go out and find ‘em.
Since moving into my new apartment, I have been toiling with a few different color schemes for my walls. I decided to go with a more subtle neutral color on one wall, while going with a bold red on the opposite wall. Hopefully it comes together nicely.

Another disappointing season for the San Jose Sharks. What’s even more disappointing is that they actually scored early, wiping out Tied House’s .25 cent beer special. Tied House had specials for every Shark game in which you could get their house beer for only a quarter until someone scores. The idiot Sharks scored in the first period, and then got pummeled for yet another early playoff exit.

Hit up Fresh Tomatoes on Tuesday, and it’s nice to see them shifting over to some green energy to go along with their green vegetables.

I’ve been bringing my lunch to work more and more lately, and have been experimenting with idiot-proof salads.
One of the easiest lunches to prepare has to be the tofu/fruit salad. I just chop up some tofu, slice some strawberries, throw in some garden salad, and top it off with some fat free croutons/low fat dressing.
Throw the reusable Tupperware into the fridge, and she’s ready for lunch the following day.
If you’re like me and like preparing your food the night before, hold off on throwing the croutons in, since they’ll get soggy. Instead wait until the day of to throw them in.
I love finding new places to eat-when they’re within my budget. So that really narrows the list of restaurants down by a lot. Fortunately, there is Restaurant.com.
Restaurant.com is basically a hub for buying gift certificates for restaurants-at a steep discount. Although the restaurant selection isn’t too great, the deals make up for it. One time I was able to get a certificate to E & O for $4, which had a value of $25!
So if you’ve been eyeballing that restaurant in your neighborhood, check restaurant.com out first. Now you can take the plunge on that questionable restaurant, without taking a huge hit on your (paper)wallet.
Watch out for the coupon promotions, which knocks off a couple more bucks on their already cheap prices. Sometimes there are a couple of caveats-just make sure to read the fine print. I assure you, it’s well worth it. Read the rest of this entry »
Happy Holidays everyone. I’m back in southern California now, at my parents’ place. I wasn’t able to bring back my point and shoot camera or DSLR, so sorry for the lack of pictures.
My six hour drive from Northern California was pleasant, but more importantly dirt cheap. If I were to have driven the 400 miles or so myself, I would have ended up spending at least $60 on gas. I took the Asian FOB Express bus, which was only $35.
Minimalistic, yet affordable. The Ikea 365+ bowl, for everyday of the year.
One of my superiors called me into her office and said, “You need to dress more like a professional.”
So I went to the mall to buy some nice looking pants. There was a sale on some nice pants for $39.99, down from $49.99. Only $10 off, I know, but I was in desperate need of some decent looking pants. So I bought two pairs for $80.
Lo and behold, the very next day there was a coupon floating around for $20 off $60 at the same store. I went back to the store and returned the pants, and then bought them again using the coupon. Needless to say, I feel better about the pants now.
Even after purchasing an item, continue looking for better deals, because chances are you will still be able to cash in on them.

I love Christmas. Especially when you can go to downtown San Jose and experience most of Christmas in the Park for free.
For those of you who can spare a few bucks, there are carnival rides, treats, displays, crafts and even ice skating.
The ice skating set me back $14, but hey, it’s Christmas right?
Check out your respective hometowns for holiday treats in your area.
I am a huge fan of the movies. Arthouse, indie, Hollywood blockbusters, you name it.
I am, however, not a fan of the absurd ticket prices.
That’s where the discount admit cards come in handy. At my local theater complex, they offer a deal of 10 movie passes for only $50!
That comes out to uhh, 3, 7, carry the 1, 6cm… a whopping $5 per ticket! So check with your local cineplex for some mind-numbingly cheap deals on movies!
